Here's a detailed look at the release timing for the film based on different regions:
Trainwreck: Mayor of Mayhem follows the tumultuous political career of Rob Ford, the 64th mayor of Toronto. The politician surprised the media as well as the other candidates by winning the 2010 Toronto mayoral election. Some of his minor scandals from his past days benefited his campaign, as they not only increased his vote but also helped him raise money for campaigning.
However, towards the end of the mayoral term, his administration spiralled into controversy after an unexpected video of him surfaced. In the video, the mayor was allegedly seen smoking crack cocaine. In the above teaser clip shared by the production company RAW, the media person who first saw the video can be seen explaining how she came across it.
She claimed that the people who had the footage of the then-mayor allegedly consuming drugs reached out to her on April Fool's Day to show her the video. The meeting happened in a parking lot, and after making the woman and her associate leave their things behind in the car, they went to a second location.
A person entered the car and played the footage for them of Rob consuming drugs. As explained in the above clip, the scandalous nature of the clip had both of them paranoid to the point that they would not let them handle their phone while watching it. The journalist alleged that she could clearly see that it was the politician himself and not a hoax video.
Rob stepped away from the office to seek treatment for his substance and alcohol abuse problem, while certain of his mayoral problems were handed over to then Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly by the city council. Even after all the controversies, Ford contested the election again in 2014 after getting himself treated for his problem.
However, after being diagnosed with an abdominal tumour, the former mayor withdrew from the race and regained his old city council seat. Rob eventually lost his battle with cancer, as the politician passed away in 2016 after chemotherapy proved to be ineffective.
The political documentary film Trainwreck: Mayor of Mayhem contains archival footage of Rob Ford and examines his scandal-ridden term in detail. Various subject matter experts also share their experience during his term, and the story of how his video surfaced online is also showcased in the film. The documentary film will be released exclusively on Netflix.
