On Thursday, Steph Curry attended Golden State's morning practice ahead of the Warriors' Game 2 showdown with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Given that Curry was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain on Wednesday and ruled out for games two, three, and four, fans were shocked when photos of the two-time MVP smiling at practice hit social media.
While speaking with members of the press, Curry spoke about his status, explaining why projecting a timeline for his return is more difficult than it may seem at this stage.
In a video shared by The Athletic's Anthony Slater, Curry spoke about the situation, saying:
"Eventually there will be conversations like that. But I’m not anywhere close to that. ... I know how tricky hamstrings can be. They can fool you to think they’re healed (when they’re not).”
Despite the fact that he will be absent from the court tonight when Golden State takes the floor at the Target Center, the future Hall of Famer's voice was an important one in Golden State's locker room on Tuesday during Game 1.
Given that, when the Warriors collide with the Timberwolves tonight, expect Curry to be a vocal presence on the sideline as the team looks to steal another game on the road.
Steph Curry seemed to be getting out to a hot start in Game 1 of the Golden State Warriors-Minnesota Timberwolves series. Over 13 minutes of action, Curry logged 13 points on 55.5% shooting from the floor, putting Golden State in what appeared to be a great spot on the road.
In the moments that followed his second-quarter hamstring strain, Steph Curry became emotional in the locker room, sensing the gravity of what had transpired.
In an article published by The Athletic's Marcus Thompson, the longtime NBA reporter described the heartbreaking scene as Curry cried, and Steve Kerr failed to find adequate words to comfort his longtime star in such a painful moment.
After Curry composed himself, however, Thompson noted how the 11-time All-Star addressed the rest of the team, "uplifting" them while "talking about what he was seeing."
Whatever the four-time champ said led to Golden State outscoring Minnesota 36-29 in the third quarter en route to a 99-88 win on the road in Game 1.
Following their impressive Game 1 performance, which saw the team out-rebound and out-shoot the Timberwolves, Golden State will look to keep the momentum rolling in Game 2 tonight.
