There has been a major update regarding the company's plans for this year's WWE Draft. The promotion is currently building towards Night of Champions on June 28 in Saudi Arabia.
According to a new report from Cory Hays of BodySlam, the 2025 WWE Draft will be happening later this year instead of during its usual time slot following WrestleMania. The report noted that the promotion is considering having the draft following SummerSlam this year.
This year's SummerSlam will be two nights and will take place on August 2-3 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The speculated date of the draft would be on the season premieres of RAW and SmackDown in September 2025.
The King and Queen of the Ring tournaments are underway on RAW and SmackDown. The winners of the tournaments will go on to challenge for a title at this year's SummerSlam in August.
WrestleVotes recently suggested that Cody Rhodes may be changing brands during the WWE Draft this year.
The American Nightmare captured the Undisputed WWE Championship from Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL. Rhodes had an impressive title reign but lost it to John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 41 in April. Rhodes teamed up with Jey Uso to defeat John Cena and Logan Paul in the main event of Money in the Bank earlier this month.
Speaking on WrestleVotes Q&A on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, the insider stated that Rhodes is currently on SmackDown, but that could change during the draft. WrestleVotes added that he hoped to see the company hold off on a rivalry between Rhodes and Randy Orton until the former AEW star was champion again.
"As far as I know, he's on SmackDown for the time being. Once the draft happens, they can shake it up. As far as the Randy and Cody program, I hope they wait till Cody's a champion again, I think that deserves the title, there's more story to tell like that, so could be a while," he said.
