Roman Reigns should NOT return at WWE Money in the Bank tonight: Here's why

Speculation is swirling that Roman Reigns could make his long-awaited return at WWE Money in the Bank 2025, perhaps to prevent Seth Rollins from winning the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. But as tempting as it is to bring back The Tribal Chief on such a high-profile stage, WWE might be better served delaying his return and having Seth Rollins walk away with the briefcase tonight.

Instead of simply costing Rollins the contract, Reigns could wait for the moment Seth Rollins cashes in the contract and cost him the World Heavyweight Championship when it is almost within the reach of The Visionary. It would not only humiliate Rollins in the most crushing, public way possible but also bring the Seth Rollins-Roman Reigns Money in the Bank lore full circle.

At WrestleMania 31, The Architect infamously cashed in during Roman Reigns’ WWE Championship match against Brock Lesnar, stealing the title and the moment from Reigns’ first WrestleMania main event. Now, ten years later, Roman could rob Seth of a career-redefining cash-in. It would also be a fitting way for Reigns to share the ring with Jey Uso for the first time since the latter became the World Heavyweight Champion, a dynamic that will be interesting to see.

As for the involvement of CM Punk and Sami Zayn in this story, that is just two more incredibly complicated relationships the Tribal Chief will have to navigate to get revenge on perhaps the two biggest ghosts of his past, Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman.

A Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns match is decades in the making

Whether this builds to a featured SummerSlam match, perhaps main eventing one of the nights, or sets the table for a colossal WrestleMania 42 clash, the superstars have the history to back it up. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins is a tale of betrayal, ambition, and legacy. The OTC returning at the right time will amplify the stakes and storytelling.

Believe it or not, but the last time Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns went one-on-one was back at Royal Rumble 2022, where Reigns suffered the only singles loss (albeit an intentional DQ) of his 1316-day reign with the Universal Championship (and later Undisputed WWE Universal Championship) until losing to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.

Before that, Reigns and Rollins went one-on-one way back in October 2019 on the WWE Draft edition of SmackDown on FOX, when The Fiend attacked Rollins to cause a DQ. For two men who are fundamentally and intricately tied together, it is stunning how they have not had a proper one-on-one match in almost 10 years.

That said, with CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins also being a potential SummerSlam main event, WWE once again has a ton of massive matches in its arsenal, but how the company chooses to bring them to fruition is what professional wrestling is all about.
