Rhea Ripley and Buddy Matthews to head down divorced couple route, says veteran, if the two worked together (Exclusive)

Rhea Ripley is one of the most over stars in the WWE right now. Her popularity with the fans has grown exponentially since the time she became Dominik Mysterio's Mami, and it hasn't gone down since. While she was involved on-screen with the younger Mysterio, Rhea Ripley married former WWE star Buddy Matthews last year in June.

Matthews, formerly known as Buddy Murphy during his time in WWE, has been wrestling for AEW since 2022, after he was released from WWE a year prior. The couple has made their relationship work despite being on different promotions. During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Murphy admitted that he'd love to work with his wife someday if the opportunity comes.

However, wrestling veteran Vince Russo doesn't feel that it would be a good idea for the two to work together. Speaking on The Wrestling Outlaws on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, he said that Rhea Ripley and Buddy Matthews could be headed down the Marc Mero and Sable route if they work in the same company.

"All I'm thinking of is Marc Mero and Sable. That's all I'm thinking of, because without a question of a doubt, Rhea Ripley would be Sable and Buddy Matthews would be Marc Mero, without a shadow of a doubt,'' Russo said. [From 2:57 onwards]

He listed down the examples of other couples that worked together in WWE in the past but ultimately headed for a divorce.

"Tell me if I'm wrong, I think it is, from what I've experienced and what I've seen, I think it is 1000% healthier for the relationship if they're working for different companies rather than working together. You know, DDP and Kimberly, Gangrel and Luna, Chris Candido and Sunny. I went through this a million times. My feeling is the relationship would be a lot better if they worked for different companies," Russo said. [From 3:18 onwards]

While the ones Russo listed didn't work out in the past, there are a few recent examples of WWE couples. John Cena famously proposed to Nikki Bella in the ring, but the two broke up before getting married, while Charlotte Flair and Andrade recently finalized their divorce.
