Gunther won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the latest edition of Monday Night RAW. But there is an outside chance of him losing the title only a month into his reign.
The Ring General's first World Heavyweight Championship reign ended at WrestleMania 41 after he tapped out to Jey Uso. He regained the title by choking out Jey on RAW. However, the Yeet Man didn't tap out to the new champion and now has the opportunity to regain the title.
WWE has confirmed a rematch between Gunther and Jey for the July 11 edition of SmackDown. The two will collide in a Street Fight, but the match won't be available to TV viewers as it's being promoted as a Dark Match.
While title changes in dark matches are quite unlikely, there is obviously an outside chance of Jey regaining the championship from Gunther. A victory for the OG Bloodline member would result in the conclusion of The Ring General's second title reign, which would occur within a month.
Matt Hardy spoke about Jey Uso's recent booking, claiming that the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion isn't buried at all.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the multi-time Tag Team Champion also predicted the possibility of Jey reuniting with his brother, Jimmy Uso. He said:
"The fact that he had that run and he lost it back to Gunther, even in that fashion, I like all that," Hardy said. "I'm fine with all that, and it's gonna be interesting to see what's next with Jey. Do The Usos come back and have a dominant tag team run? It's just nice that he was able to dip his toe, dip his feet into the waters of a main-event player. I think he earned that, and I'm glad he got the opportunity to do it."
It remains to be seen what plans WWE has in store for Jey Uso going forward after his title loss.
