WWE is bringing back the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournaments after Nick Aldis and Adam Pearce announced on SmackDown that it would start following Money in the Bank.
The participants were not announced, but it was revealed that the men and women of each brand would have two Fatal Four-Way matches, leading to the semifinals.
The finals of each tournament will culminate at Night of Champions on June 28 in Saudi Arabia. Recently, some stars have had more success and opportunities to win titles than others.
Due to that booking, the next six WWE performers should not win King of the Ring and a coveted title shot at SummerSlam.
The El Grande Americano gimmick is polarizing, but it can be entertaining in the right spots. The spots the persona should not be used include those for titles.
Chad Gable had two chances to qualify for Money in the Bank, succeeding once as the masked performer. He didn't win, but it still took a spot away from another star.
Both personas are likely to be involved in Fatal Four-Way matches. Neither, however, should advance or win the King of the Ring tournament. Stars who missed out on Money in the Bank should go further.
Fans of The Bloodline are probably clamoring for Jimmy Uso to achieve the same success as his twin, Jey Uso. While he's a popular star in his own right, continually funneling huge opportunities to members of the famous family is a bad move.
It's no secret that The Rock has a lot of influence as a member of the board of directors. Jimmy is directionless at the moment and is the lone member of the OG Bloodline who hasn't made an impact on his own.
That argument could be used as to why he should win, but there are at least 15 other stars not related to the Anoa'i dynasty who also deserve the rub associated with winning King of the Ring.
One thing that should disqualify certain stars from competing for Championship opportunities is currently holding a title.
Dominik Mysterio wasn't in the Money in the Bank qualifiers, but Liv Morgan, Chelsea Green, and Zelina Vega were. All three women failed to advance.
Since Dirty Dom has the Intercontinental title to worry about, that should be his focus. A program for the title could stem from one of the Fatal Four-Way matches, but Dominik shouldn't make it too deep in the tournament.
Randy Orton made it to the finals of last year's King of the Ring tournament, falling to the winner, Gunther. Because of a controversial finish, he still received a title shot after The Ring General won the World Heavyweight title.
The Viper also faced John Cena for the Undisputed WWE title, providing Cena with his first challenge after WrestleMania 41. Orton will probably be involved again this year since he fell short last year and disappeared after Backlash.
The Legend Killer can be in one of the qualifiers, but his time as a major World Champion is in the past. Other stars are long overdue for their chance to win major gold in WWE.
Gunther was the first star to earn a World Heavyweight Championship shot by winning the revamped King of the Ring tournament. He defeated Damian Priest for the title at SummerSlam and held the belt until WrestleMania 41.
He lost a lot of his menacing aura by tapping out so quickly to Jey Uso, a man he had defeated numerous times before The Showcase of the Immortals. Gunther has the next shot at Jey.
Should he fall short again, he should not win the tournament this year. Winning last year was fine, but with a different format, the same person shouldn't win it two years in a row. It's not like King of the Ring is the Royal Rumble.
Logan Paul always says he "works smarter, not harder," but that "smarter" usually means he's been gifted a title shot. That's how he's received every championship opportunity throughout his career.
So far, that has meant a throwaway feud that will only be remembered for a viral moment each time. His main contribution at Money in the Bank was a moonsault onto the announce table.
True WWE wrestlers care about the history of the craft and advancing it further for the next generation. The Maverick doesn't care about that. King of the Ring is for bragging rights as well.
While Paul would get nuclear heat if he won, he's already competed in the last two big shows. He can take a backseat for a few months. Enough big WWE names already do that, and it's his turn for a break.
