Recap of The Gold season 1

The first season of The Gold is based on the real-life Brink's-Mat gold theft in 1983, which was one of the biggest thefts in British history. A group of armed thieves broke into a warehouse at Heathrow and took cash, gold, diamonds, platinum, and £26 million worth of goods. That's about £111 million today.

For a while, the police thought they had found all of the gold, but it soon became clear that a lot of it was still missing.

Detective Brian Boyce (Hugh Bonneville), DI Nicki Jennings (Charlotte Spencer), and Tony Brightwell (Emun Elliott) are in charge of the investigation into the theft. They find out together that the thieves, like John Palmer (Tom Cullen) and Kenneth Noye (Jack Lowden), were also involved in laundering the gold that was stolen.

As the investigation goes on, the criminals try to hide their stolen goods and stay one step ahead of The Gold season 2.

The hunt for the missing gold ends with its discovery, but the police soon learn that the criminals are much better organized than they thought. When the thieves, led by Kenneth Noye, take the stolen gold to market, they get caught up in a web of international crime, money laundering, and smuggling.
