Liverpool has reportedly agreed to a deal to sign 20-year-old Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi. The youngster has impressed at Hungary's top-flight club Puskas Akademia, which could lead to a move to Anfield if reports are to be believed.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have sealed Pecsi's signature, and the goalkeeper has also undergone his medical. He reports that the documents between the clubs have also been exchanged, and the announcement is imminent.
Nemzeti Sport reported that Pecsi left the Hungary U21 camp and did not face Albania in a friendly fixture on Thursday, June 5, as he was in England for the transfer. They added that the goalkeeper, who played 52 times for Puskas Akademia, was in advanced talks from last week and pushed for the move.
Pecsi joined Puskas Akademia in 2017 and was on the Golden Boy shortlist this year after an impressive season. He will be the second goalkeeper moving to Anfield this summer, after a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili was agreed last summer.
The Georgian goalkeeper stayed at Valencia for the 2024/25 season and will join Arne Slot's side for the pre-season. He spoke about his move to Anfield earlier this season and told Geo Team (via GOAL):
"I'll go to Liverpool and give my all, just like I did at Valencia. I'll work hard every single day, training with Alisson will help me."
While Liverpool are adding two new goalkeepers, they have sold Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford. The London side sealed the deal earlier in June after Bayer Leverkusen signed goalkeeper Mark Flekken from the Bees.
Alisson has insisted that he has no plans to leave Liverpool despite the club's decision to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili. He stated that his family was happy in England and had no intention of leaving. He told The Times:
“I want to honour my contract and finish my contract here or make a new one. I am really happy here. My family is happy. I never got to the point where I was talking about wages and things like this [with Saudi clubs]. It was just interest, but when you hear about the numbers the other players are getting you are a little bit attracted. That is normal.”
Arne Slot will have a big decision to make this summer, with both Alisson and Mamardashvili in his squad. The two goalkeepers are expected to fight for the #1 spot, with Pecsi potentially moving on loan to gain experience.
