Liverpool star Harvey Elliott has admitted that he is thinking about his future, hinting at a potential exit this summer. The 22-year-old stated that while he loved the club, he needed to think about his career and start playing regularly.
Speaking to the media, Elliott opened up on his Liverpool future. He said he was consulting his family and agent as they determine the next best step for him. He said (via METRO):
"It’s just a situation that me and the team have to have a conversation about because I’m coming into an age now where I’m 22, I’m going to be 23 next season. I don’t really want to be wasting years on my career because it’s a short career. You don’t know what’s going to happen. I need to reflect. I need to see if I’m content in doing what I’m doing and how can I improve as a player because that’s the most important thing.
"I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself. If that’s to go somewhere else, then it’s a decision that I’m going to have to make and I just need to see what happens. Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But most importantly, it’s just about what’s best for my career."
Elliott joined the Reds from the Cottagers in 2019 and has played 147 times for the Anfield side. The 22-year-old played 28 times under Arne Slot last term, scoring five and assisting three goals.
Football pundit Tim Sherwood, on Sky Sports earlier this year, urged Harvey Elliott to leave Liverpool. He claimed that the youngster deserved more chances at Anfield.
He said (via the Mirror):
"The trouble is for players like Harvey Elliott, I watched him and I was really impressed with what I saw. The other boys are coming onto the pitch, he's made five subs there, and still no Harvey Elliott and you know, he's not happy. He sat there and his face was so angry and annoyed. He will want to leave that football club, I know it's a brilliant club if he can fight his way into the team, but if he's not going to play on a regular basis."
Liverpool have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz this summer. They have reportedly had a significant bid rejected by the Bundesliga side recently.
