Jamaica host Guatemala at the Independence Park in Kingston on Tuesday for a clash in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Ranked 63rd in the world, the Reggae Boyz are fresh off a narrow 1-0 win over the British Virgin Islands earlier this week.
Warner Brown was the difference-maker on the night with a 17th-minute strike as they secured a place in the next round.
With three wins from three so far, Jamaica have nine points in the bag from a possible nine and sit in second place in the Group E standings, behind Guatemala only by virtue of inferior goal difference.
Jamaica will now be aiming to finish the round on a high and usurp Guatemala from their pole position with a victory. That would give them further momentum in their bid for a first World Cup appearance since 1998.
Meanwhile, Guatemala just need a draw to advance as group winners and will be pumped up following an impressive 4-2 comeback victory over the Dominican Republic this week.
Having led after only six minutes, Los Chapines fell behind 2-1 after 36 minutes. But the hosts netted thrice more soon after to turn the game on its head and earn all three points.
It demonstrated their hunger and an incredible fighting spirit, something that holds them in good stead as Guatemala dream of making their World Cup debut next year.
Jamaica will be looking to upset the applecart here and could hence come flying out of the blocks, but Guatemala will be aiming to choke them and limit their chances. A low-scoring draw seems fitting.
